"I’m as straight shootin’ as it gets.
What you see is what you get. There’s no inner
conflict or inner child, none of that crap.
There’s no id, just Ed." - Ed The Sock

Ed - The Dawning of a New Era
Ed the Sock has been steadily gaining
notoriety. After his acclaimed coverage
of Woodstock ‘99, SPIN
magazine named him as one of the top 20
coolest things about the festival. Over
the years, Ed's character has evolved
from a late-night gimmick to a juggernaut
that's broadcast in Canada, the U.S.,
Finland, Australia and New Zealand. In
fact his late-night program has gotten
so popular that it beats
the socks off -- pardon the pun -- both
Leno and Letterman in the ratings every
week.
The Globe and Mail newspaper recently
honored Ed as one of the 40 most influential
people in Canadian television . There's
even an Ed movie in development - described
as a cross between Shaft and Indiana Jones.

"There’s a movie but we can’t
talk about it yet. Suffice it to say it
will not be like the Gong Show movie.
I will not be playing myself, I will be
playing a character. I’m more than just
a VJ and a star of an insanely popular
internationally syndicated TV show, I’m
also an act-tor." - Ed the Sock,
The
Gate
Since Ed the Sock first appeared on Toronto
public access cable TV nearly a decade
ago, his celebrity status as the star
of the award-winning TV program Ed's
Night Party has exploded worldwide.
The anti-VJ utilizes his caustic wit freely,
mocking music videos and asking
stars uncomfortable questions.
His brutal honesty has earned him a huge
TV following and a 5,000+ member fan club.
The surly sock puppet gives one-of-a-kind
celebrity interviews and freely gives
his jaded, brutal and honest views and
diatribes on any subject he chooses, whether
it has to do with pop culture, celebrities,
politics, religion or any taboo topic.
Ed has interviewed some of the the biggest
celebs around: James Brown, Willie Nelson,
Nelly Furtado, and Kid Rock to name a
few.
He's dated Claudia Christian, toured Burt
Ward's home, stalked Jerry Springer, cursed
with Kid Rock, spent a summer afternoon
with girls from Naked News, cooked chili
with Gary Coleman, made Robert Vaughn
pout, Donnie Osmond blush and Richard
Simmons cry.
During a backstage interview with Destiny's
Child, Ed got kissed by the trio (not
that they are the only women in music
to give their attentions to the sexy sock).

celebrity encounters with Ed.
Between the raw, unrestrained edge of
his late-night TV show and his electrifying
VJ turns on MuchMusic, Ed the Sock continues
to hold a huge, growing audience in his
thrall.
Ed also surprises people by having a tremendous
social conscience under his gruff demeanor,
and he uses his website to publish editorials
that run the gamut from sex & violence
to smoking, terrorism and women
in music. Surf his caustic editorials

Ed
was born when Steve Kerzner was
a program director at a community
station in Ontario. One of the station's
hosts needed a sidekick -- so Kerzner
came up with the puppet who gets
away with saying anything.
Kerzner has no interest in being
on-camera and doesn't tell people
what he does. "I work in TV. That's
all I say. If they ask, I'm the
executive producer of The Ed the
Sock Show. Because otherwise I have
people going, 'Do the voice.' "

Ed the Controversial Sock
The outspoken cigar chomping sock has been the
subject of controversy and complaint on many
fronts:
~ Ed the Sock was banned from Alberta's A-Channel
and syndicated Canadian
TV after a viewer complained
about an episode that featured Ed having sex
with a Playboy playmate. "It was probably
the filthiest segment we've ever done," admits
Kerzner. "The woman wouldn't keep her clothes
on."
~ Ed the Sock was banned from eight American
college TV stations.
~ There has been speculation that Ed The Sock
was involved in Manipulating SoundScan Charts.

~ The Comedy Channel refuses to air his show.
~ Mike Bullard wanted to have an Ed clone --
not the real Ed -- on his show. That way, he
could mock the puppet without facing Ed's scathing
wrath. Steve Kerzner (Ed's right hand man) refused.
~ Ed has been the target of groups who find
his humour offensive and sexist. They may not
realize that a woman produces the Ed The Sock
show.
~ Triumph the Insult Comic Dog from Late Night
With Conan O'Brien and Skank the Sock, a little-seen
sketch from the short-lived Ben Stiller Show
are "people ripping me off" according to Kerzner.
He had sent a tape of Ed to an O'Brien staffer,
and a few months after it was rejected, Triumph
the puppet pooch popped up. "Don't even talk
to me about that piece of crap. Ripoff. It's
amazing" Ed the Sock snapped.
~ City TV aired 'Ed's Night Party' promotional
spots during the premiere movie broadcast of
"Star Trek Voyager", and a viewer complained
(Read the complaint HERE).
One of the offending ads was set to "Star Trek"
theme music and had Ed saying, "A recent
survey proved that Trekkies enjoy a very full
and active sex life. They'd enjoy it even more
if they had a partner." |

"Who or what are your greatest influences? That
would probably be cheap alcohol, but ahh probably
the life of people like Sinatra, John Wayne. You know,
back in the days when men were men. Not like they
are now when a leading man is Ross from Friends. Back
when men weren’t afraid to be men." - Ed the
Sock, The Gate (Read

He has flirted with teen pop idol Christina Aguilera
and elicited an obscene gesture from William Shatner
for chiding the 'Star Trek' actor about his thinning
hair. And he once sent actor Denzel Washington into
hysterics by asking rocker Lenny Kravitz if a woman
should be 'savored like a fine wine, or guzzled like
a Colt 45 (beer). -- Ottawa Sun
. . .
Ed asked Shatner to give him the Captain Kirk salute
and Shatner gave him the finger. "Ed started really
making fun of him, saying that he and Shatner went
to the same barber," Kerzner says, referring to Ed's
green toupee. "Ed started doing his impression of
Shatner's acting style, the way he steals scenes by
over-emoting until Shatner had his security bulldoze
the camera out of his way." -- Calgary Sun
